A DIN Rail is a standard mounting rail that is designed for quick-mount by a variety of control components such as circuit breakers, contactors, terminals, etc. The main benefit of using DIN Rail system is the compact size. It can save space for your control box. As showing in the pictures, for a 30A 240V (2 pole) system (one circuit breaker, two contactors and 12 terminals….typical for a basic beer brewing control penal), it only takes 5 x 4.25” area. For the 60A system with same configuration, it only takes 7.25 x 4.25” area. This could cover the entire mount panel if traditional none DIN Rail components were used. Another benefit of DIN Rail system is its interchangeability. All the components can be easily mounted on the metal rail. Rather than installing screw mounted components one by one in your control panel, using DIN Rail system can save you a lot of time in installing or replacing the components.
Here is a control box built with DIN rail components for a 30A, 240V Brew in a Bag (BIAB) system. This system comprises of two DIN rail contactors, two DIN rail circuit breakers, several DIN rail terminals and two DIN rail stoppers. One contactor (on the left) controls the power input for the entire system, another controls the power to the heating element. One double pole 30A circuit breaker is for heater and one 10A circuit breaker is for pumps. The enclosure in this example is B302520, whose dimension is 12'' x 10'' x 8" (300 x 250 x 200 mm).
