Smoker Controller Selection Guide
Controller Selection Guide (for Electric Smoker)
Here are some questions you need to ask for your smoker and this controller:
1) What is the power rating of my smoker?
2) Do I need single-probe controller or multi-probe controller?
3) Do I want WIFI support for this controller?
Smoker’s Power Rating |

Bradley® Original Smoker (Note2), Smokin-it® #2 or #3, SmokinTex® 1100, SmokinTex® Pro 1400 |
|||
≤ 1800W/120V |
WS-1510DPMS/WS-1510ELPM (Note4) |
WST-1520H |
Masterbuilt® Smoker (Note3), Smokin-it® #4, SmokinTex® Pro 1500 |

Large / Customized Smoker |
If your smoker is less than 1400W/120V (including but not limited to Bradley® Smoker, Some Masterbuilt® Smoker, Smokin-it® #2 or #3, SmokinTex Pro 1400), you can use WS-1211H (single probe controller), WSD-1200H (dual-probe controller), WST-1520H (3-probe controller) or AW-1520H (3-probe controller with WIFI support).
If your smoker is less than 1800W/120V (including but not limited to Masterbuilt® Smoker, Smokin-it® #4, SmokinTex Pro 1500), you can use WS-1510DPMS (single probe controller), WST-1520H (3-probe controller) or AW-1520H (3-probe controller with WIFI support).
If your smoker is less than 2400W/120V or 4800W/240V, you can use customized PID controller: WS-2000F-SMD.
If your smoker is less than 7000W/240V, you can use customized control panel for large smoker SMK102 or DIY kit KIT-SMK102.
Note 1: If you like to order some parts and build your own controller/control panel, please see page Recommendation for Electric Smoker.
Note 2: It is no problem to use high wattage rating controller for low wattage rating smoker. For example, you can use AW-1520H (rated as 1800W) for 400W Bradley smoker.
Note 3: For Bradley smoker wiring guide with Auber controller, please click here to download wiring guide.
Note 4: For Masterbuilt smoker, user needs to modify it to bypass its digital control panel. Please click here for the modification guide.
Note 5: Both WS-1510DPMS & WS-1510ELPM are rated as 1800W/120V. WS-1510DPMS uses type K thermocouple, which can reach 900F or higher temp (with the supplied TC-K3MM-C probe). WS-1510ELPM uses PT100 RTD free hanging sensor, which can reach 480F (with the supplied multi-purpose RTD sensor WS-SENSOR09).
Note 6: For 20A max, single probe with WIFI or Bluetooth, plug-n-play controllers, please see WS-2000F-AW and WS-2000F-BT. Both controllers can read type K thermocouple temp sensors.
Controller Selection Guide (for Charcoal Smoker)
Each controller kit includes one PID controller, one or two temperature sensors, one blower and optional mounting accessories. The controller and temperature sensor sets are universal for all charcoal smokers on the market, but different smokers may require different mounting blowers and mounting accessories. For popular charcoal smokers on the market, Auber offers controller kits. To search the right controller kit, you can simply type your smoker name in the search bar and that kit will come out. If there is no kit for your smoker, you can select each part separately by following the guide below.
How to select your controller?
- SYL-1615: This is one of our best-selling controllers. It is easy to use with solid control performance. This controller can work with one pit probe at one time.
- SYL-3615: This is Auber 2nd generation WIFI controller with more improvements based on feedbacks from the SYL-1615 and SYL-2615, such as three-probe support, push notifications, OTA firmware update, fan speed control mode, open-lid detection, etc.
- Heatermeter: This is an option for advanced users. It is based on a Raspberry Pi open-source project with customized settings. It has offered a lot of fun for computer/electronics hobbyists who also love to BBQ.

How to select your blower?
Our blowers are available in three different sizes: 6.5CFM, 10CFM and 20CFM. Generally speaking, blower selection depends on your smoker type/size and your cooking temperature. Large smokers with fair insulation will require a more powerful blower (10CFM or 20CFM). Small smokers with good insulation can work with a small blower (6.5CFM). Also, for high cooking temperature (350F or higher), a 10 CFM blower is recommended.
According to our experience, the table below is for the recommended blower type:
Smoker Type |
Low or Medium Cooking Temp (225F) |
High Cooking Temp (350F or above) |
Example |
Medium or Large Kamados |
6.5 CFM Blower |
Medium/Large BGE, Vision Grill Series B |

Extra Large Kamados |
6.5 CFM Blower |
10 CFM Blower |
Extra Large BGE |
Bullet Smokers |
6.5 CFM or 10 CFM Blower |
10 CFM or 20 CFM blower |
18.5” or 22” Weber Smokey Mountain |
Kettle Smokers |
6.5 CFM Blower |
18.5” or 22” Weber Kettle |

How to select the blower mounting accessory?
Depending on your smoker type, you may need an accessory to mount the blower, such as an adapter plate, a silicon gasket, a ball valve adapter, etc. For Big Green Eggs or other similar smokers, different adapter plates are offered. With an adapter plate, the blower can be mounted to the smoker’s lower vent directly. See adapter selection guide here. For the Weber Smokey Mountain or other similar smokers, optional silicone gasket is offered. It can help to insulate the heat and reduce the air leak from the smoker to the blower. Optional ball valve adapter is also needed for some smokers (like bullet style, offset style, customized large smoker, etc). It can be used to connect Auber's blower to a ball valve or other venting pipe that has an NPT connection on your smoker.
There are some smokers on the market that do not come with holes to mount blowers, i.e., Weber kettles. In this case, the user needs to drill a hole on the side of the smoker (above the ash tray) and mount the blower there.
If you cannot find any blower adapters for your smoker and your smoker has a damper/hole for mounting blower, please measure the size and contact us. The inner dimensions of the adapter plate refer to the size of the blower and the outer dimensions of the adapter should fit the damper/hole size on your smoker.
Other accessories that you may also need.
- Battery adapter for Dewalt battery pack: Convert your Dewalt battery pack to 12V power bank.
- DCcord1: Power cord with car charger
- DCcord3: Inline power switch cord, to turn off the controller directly.
- DCcord4: Power cord splitter. Two blowers can be controlled by one controller via this cable.
