AuberWifi App and Wi-Fi Enabled Devices
Note: The following page is for our 2nd generation of WiFi-enabled devices that should be used with the AuberWifi app such as SYL-3615, AW-TH330, AW-1520H, and other AW series controllers). For older WiFi controllers with the AuberSmart app, please see the manual guide here.
Setup Tips: 1) Download the latest AuberWifi App from Appstore/Google Play. Aubersmart App is NOT compatible with your controller. 2) For iOS users, please make sure "Local Network" permission for the AuberWiFi app is ON. 3) For iOS 17 users, if you open the Auberwifi app and the yellow status indicator bar on the top of the app is stuck at yellow, please uninstall the AuberWIFI app then reinstall the app.
Special safety alert:
Auber Instruments Wi-Fi products featured with complimentary WIFI connection ability to provide hands free control with devices through the internet. Periodic attention is required as wireless networks may become unusable/faulty and the controller may need manual assistance. It is not advised to use your Auber WIFI product unattended for long periods of time or in special facilities that relate to hospitals, fire departments, elevators, medical equipment or emergency equipment. It is not advised for operators to leave the house for a long time when WIFI controllers are being used continuously.
AuberWIFI setup tutorial video (based on SYL-3615)
Supplementary Wi-Fi User Guide for AW-SYL-23x2 and AW-SYL-23x2P (AW-SYL-2342, AW-SYL-2352, AW-SYL-2342P, AW-SYL-2352P)
1. Wireless specifications
Wireless Standards: 2.4Ghz, IEEE 802.11 b/g/n
Security: WPA/WPA2/WPA2-Enterprise
IPv4 Internet (IPv6 is currently not supported)
Note: This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. Please contact us for more details.
2. System requirements
• A 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network is required. Most modern wireless routers on the market are dual-band/tri-band and most likely they should be able to generate 2.4 GHz wireless networks. If you have difficulties pairing our controller, please check your router's admin page to make sure its 2.4 GHz band is enabled and properly set up.
• Users must have the Wi-Fi network’s name (SSID) and the password.
• An Android/iOS smart device is required with the latest AuberWIFI App installed. This app can be downloaded from the Apple Store or the Google Play store for free.
• During the initial setup, the user’s smartphone/tablet must connect to the designated Wi-Fi network.
• The Auber Wi-Fi products must be under the coverage of the designated Wi-Fi network all the time.
• IMPORTANT: Please do NOT use the percentage symbol "%" and the backslash symbol "" in the WiFi password, which will cause the password not to be parsed correctly and can cause the pairing process to fail.
3. Wireless connection indicator
The blue LED indicator shows the status of the wireless connection. Typically, it is located on the front of the controller. Different blinking frequencies indicate different communication statuses. Normally, this indicator is solid ON when connected to the router.
Fast blinking (3-4 times per second): initializing/resetting wireless connection.
Slow blinking (once per two seconds): wireless signal out-of-range. Please move your controller closer to your router. If you see slow blinking after your WIFI setup at the first time, your entered WIFI name/password may not be correct. Please double confirm and try it again. If your phone has auto-complete or text suggestion feature enabled, it may add wrong characters to the WIFI name or password automatically. You can probably type in your wifi name & pasword somewhere else then copy it to the app. If your WIFI name is very long (like 63 characters or longer), the setup could be failed. If your router has a guest network feature, you can use it with a short WIFI name for the controller.
Solid ON: device is communicating with the user’s phone/tablet.
4. The initial Wi-Fi configuration steps
1) Download and install the latest AuberWifi app. The app can be found in Google Play and Apple Store.
2) Your Auber controller should be placed in an area that has a strong Wi-Fi network signal. Power on the controller and its blue Wi-Fi indicator will begin fast blinking.
3) Ensure the Wi-Fi is turned on and connected to your designated router in your smartphone/tablet. To do so, you can go to “Settings”, then “Wi-Fi” in your phone/tablet to set it up.
4) Add a new device. Open the AuberWIFI app, at the “Device list” page, click the plus icon “+” on the top right corner to add a new device.
5) On the "Add Device" page, enter your current Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password. If the SSID doesn’t show up automatically or correctly, please manually enter the correct SSID. Once you have entered this information, click “Connect”.
6) Follow the guide and connect your device to your controller's WIFI (starting as Auberwifi...). Next step, for iOS users, once the loading cycle sign located on the left top is changed to checked sign (means your phone is connected to the WIFI of our controller), you can manually switch back to the AuberWIFI app to complete the rest steps. For Android users (IMPORTANT), you WILL see a notification or pop-up of no internet in about 5 seconds. Please choose "Stay Connected", then manually switch back to the AuberWIFI app to complete the rest steps. Without this step, the setup will fail. If you cannot see this pop-up, please manually forget the SSID from this controller (starting as Auberwifi...), then try to connect it again.
7) The new device should have been added*. The model number of the device, current program step, and current probe reading will be displayed.
8) To view detailed information about the device, click on the device name/info. To rename this device or delete it, long tap on the device name/info. To refresh/update the information, tap the refresh button on the top right corner.
9) This same controller can be set up to another smartphone/tablet at the same time. Please reset the wireless function (section 5 below) on the controller at first, then follow the guide above to set it up again.
10) Multiple AuberWIFI devices can be added to the same AuberWIFI app. Please follow the guide above from step 3.
*iOS common mistake: If you completed all the steps above but no controller shown up in the device list, please check the local network permission for the Auberwifi app. If this permission is turned off, you will have this type of issue. To check this permission, please go to the settings of your phone then search Auberwifi on the top search bar. Click on Auberwifi then turn on the permission for the local network.
5. Reset the Wi-Fi connection on the controller
If your Auber device was configured to a Wi-Fi signal and was later moved to a new place with a new Wi-Fi signal, or if the user wants to set up a second smartphone/tablet with this controller, the Wi-Fi module must be reset manually.
1) Place the device under the coverage of the new Wi-Fi signal. When the device is powered up, the blue indicator will start blinking slowly (0.5 Hz) due to the original Wi-Fi signal being out-of-range.
2a) For AW-TD130W/AW-TH330A-W, hold both the SET key and Down Arrow (▼) key for 2 seconds.
2b) For AW-HD330, hold both the SET key and MUTE key for 2 seconds.
2c) For AW-1520H/AW-1510H, hold both the SET key and Timer key (2nd key from the left) for 2 seconds. See the video here.
2d) For SYL-3615, press and hold the SET button for 3s, then go to system config, then change reset WIFI to Yes. Then press the SET key to confirm. The blue LED will start blinking fast (4 Hz).
2e) For AW-SYL-23x2 and AW-SYL-23X2P, the WiFi reset step is different. Please see the guide here for details.
6. How to set up the same controller on multiple phones/tablets
You need to set up the controller to your phone #1 at first. Then reset the WIFI on the controller (see section 5 above). Please do not remove the app or remove the controller in your phone #1. Then setup the controller to your phone #2 as normal. Once the setup is completed, please verify if the apps in both phones are working properly.
7. FAQs (regarding Wi-Fi connection)
1) Can I add more than one Auber’s Wi-Fi device to the AuberWIFI app?
Yes. You can add multiple devices to the AuberWIFI app if they are under the coverage of the same Wi-Fi network.
2) Can multiple smartphones or tablets connect to the same device?
Yes. An Auber’s Wi-Fi device can connect with more than one smartphone or tablet.
3) How can I prevent other AuberWIFI app users from adding my device?
First of all, the other users must know your Wi-Fi password in order to add the device. Secondly, you can choose to “Lock” the device in the app, so new users won’t be able to add the device even if he/she has the Wi-Fi password. Please note that this “Lock Device” feature will not block users that are already connected.
4) How can I prevent other users from changing my settings on the device?
The parameter settings and app preferences are password protected. Users who don’t know the password will not be able to access the parameter or preference settings. However, changing parameter settings from the device itself does not require a password.
5) Can I access the device info without a Wi-Fi network?
Once your phone/tablet has successfully connected with the device, you can access the device via cellular signal. Or you can use the physical keypad on the controller to get access to it.
6) Can I access the device info from a Wi-Fi network that is different from my home Wi-Fi network?
If you are connecting the device for the first time, your phone/tablet and the device must be under the coverage of the same Wi-Fi network. Once your phone/tablet has successfully connected with the device, you can access the device from a different Wi-Fi network as long as it has internet access.
7) Where does the AuberWIFI save exported data?
Due to the improved security levels of the iOS systems, you are unable to get access to the export data via a computer to your smartphone/tablet. But you can still export the data over the AuberWIFI app.
On Android phones, you export the data and share it using email or other apps. You can also access the exported CSV file from your phone in this path:
/Internal shared storage/Android/data/com.
8) Can I use Auber WIFI controllers without the internet?
Yes. These units can work as standalone units just as regular controllers that do not have wireless connection capability.
9) How to pair my controller to a new router?
Please reset the WiFi module on your controller at first (section 5 above), then setup your controller to your new router (section 4 above).
10) During the initial Wi-Fi setup, does my phone have to be connected to my home 2.4G Wi-Fi (before I enter my Wi-Fi name and password in the App)?
Not necessary. During the setup, you need to connect your phone to the SSID generated from the Auber controller directly, to send your Wi-Fi information to it. So it is not necessary to connect your phone to your home 2.4G Wi-Fi before the setup. Your home router must have 2.4G Wi-Fi enabled.
11) How does the mute button work?
When the alarm in your controller is triggered, you can press the mute button once to mute this alarm for this time temporarily. When the alarm is not triggered, pressing this mute button will not function. This button will not disable the alarm in your controller. In order to disable your alarm, please check its product manual and adjust its alarm parameters accordingly.
12) (Android only) Why does my app keep switching between connecting/reconnecting status when I first open the app, or when I wake up my phone?
It is due to Android battery management feature. When you turn off your screen or when you put the app in the background, sometimes Android OS will automatically kill/freeze the app to save your battery. So the internet communication from the app will be suspended. Then when you want to use the app, this internet communication needs to be resumed so you will see this reconnecting status. Typically it will only take a few seconds. If your app is stuck at reconnecting status, you can try to force close the app then restart the app.
If this mode bothers you, you can go to your Android settings, search AuberWIFI on the top and enter, go to "battery", then change "manage battery usage". Change the option to "Unrestricted" instead. Default option is "optimized". It is based on Android 13 and there should be similar settings for other recent Android versions.
7. Wi-Fi configuration tips
a) Make sure your router has a 2.4 GHz network enabled.
b) Consider creating a 2.4GHz guest network with a simple SSID (WiFi name) and password.
c) Leaving Auber’s Wi-Fi device on a concrete floor or the ground may result in poor Wi-Fi signal reception. Setting it on a wooden bench or table may help.
8. Firmware OTA tips
Your WiFi product must be set up and connected to your phone/app at first, so you can request the OTA update. If your controller is offline, or if the blue WiFi indicator on your controller is still blinking, requesting OTA update through the app will fail.
